Section Announces Call for Nominations for the 2010-2011 Awards Program

We are pleased to announce the 2010-2011 Call for Nominations for the Aquatic Section's Awards Program. The Aquatic Section's Membership Committee encourages members to identify individuals who have made significant contributions to the profession and to recognize their efforts by nominating them for the Section's various awards.

 

 

Richard Ruoti Award for Scholarship  

Purpose:

This is a most prestigious award presented by the Aquatic Section.  It is named in honor of Dr. Richard Ruoti PhD, PT., as one of the founders of the Aquatic Section established in 1992.  Dr. Ruoti‘s achievements set the standard of volunteer leadership for the Section.  It is through the unrelenting efforts of Dr. Ruoti that the Aquatic Physical Therapy Section is a thriving section today.   This award was established in 2002.   The purpose of this award is to recognize exemplary efforts in the advancement of aquatic physical therapy through scholarly endeavors.


Richard G. Ruoti, PH.D., PT, Physiologist, Physical Therapist, is a graduate of Temple University's College of Allied Health Professions and The Department of Kinesiology, Biokenetics Research Laboratory. He has spent the past several years combining bench research with clinical application, particularly in the area of aquatic physiology and rehabilitation. In addition, he is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and a constituent of several professional associations. He is also the editor of the textbook Aquatic Rehabilitation and a member of the editorial board of the journal of Aquatic Physical Therapy.

Criteria: 

Section members who consistently contribute to the filed of aquatic physical therapy through scholarly efforts.  Examples include: conducting research, publishing book/articles, and proposing novel intervention approaches.

Judy Cirullo Award for Leadership  

Purpose:

This award is presented to a section member who consistently promotes aquatic physical therapy through service and or clinical practice. Â  The recipient should be actively in conducting excellent clinical programs, providing service to the association and serving as patient advocates. The award acknowledges an individual member who has made outstanding and enduring contributions to promote aquatic physical therapy through service and or/clinical practice


Judy Cirullo, PT, Cert MDT, CMP is the owner of Oregon Spine and Physical Therapy. She graduated from University of Illinois Medical Center in 1979 with her degree in Physical Therapy. She has extensive training and experience in mechanical diagnosis techniques for the spine and extremities. She is credentialed in Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment (Cert MDT) (McKenzie) and is a Certified Mulligan Practitioner (CMP). She is founder and past president of the Aquatic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association. Her focus and expertise are mechanical problems relating to the spine and extremities. She has published two books, one book chapter: Aquatic Intervention for the Obstetric Female and has published various articles. She volunteers her time with 2 local high schools for their football and wrestling team injuries.

Anniversary Pin Awards  
 

Have you been a member of the aquatic physical therapy section for 5, 10 or 15 consecutive years? 

 

We would like to recognize you and you're that accomplishment with an anniversary pin to be awarded at our aquatic section business meetings during APTA combined section meeting each year.  You may nominate yourself or nominate someone whom has been a member of the aquatic section for 5 consecutive years, 10 years or 15 years.

 

Pins are awarded on your anniversary date.  Example:  if you have been a member for 7 years today. You can nominate yourself for a 5 year pin.  You would not be eligible for a 10 year pin until that anniversary date. 

 

It is easy; just fill out the Nomination Form and e-mail it to the aquatic association office.

    • 15 YEARS

    If you have been a member of the Aquatic Section for 5 - 10 - 15 years, you can be awarded beautiful lapel pin.
