A Guest Editorial . . .
Why Should I Support
PT-PAC?
Last year PT-PAC raised over $934,000 (the most ever in an off election
year). In 2005, PT-PAC was supported by 21.2% of the Aquatic Physical
Therapy Section. While this is a good start, as a section, we need more
support.
You may say that I already pay APTA dues. Why
contribute to PT-PAC?
*** APTA dues can not be used
for contributions to candidates
*** PT-PAC allows us to support our friends in Congress for their
reelection
*** PT-PAC provides vital access to Members of Congress and their staff
to talk about legislative and regulatory issues
*** Other groups have PACs. Let the physical therapy profession be the
voice of PT, not some other occupation or group
PT-PAC is crucial in our efforts to repeal the
therapy cap, obtaining Medicare Direct Access, receiving proper
reimbursement for our services and eliminating policies that restrict
provisions of aquatic therapy services utilized by physical therapists.
These are just a few of the issues that PT must have a voice on Capitol
Hill.
PT-PAC's goal this year is to have 10,000 APTA contributors to PT-PAC and
to raise over $1 million. This is only 15.4% of our total membership and
20% of our PT membership. If we don't support our PAC, another occupation
will step in and tell Members of Congress how physical therapy should be
legislated.
To help achieve PT-PAC's goals, the section requests that you contribute
to PT-PAC. A challenge to our section is to increase our participation
from the previous year. The section that has the highest percentage
increase will win an award at the 2007 Combined Sections Meeting. While it
would be great to win an award, most importantly the profession needs our
support this election year.
Contributions can be made through PT-PAC's logo on APTA's web page, can be
sent to the following address: PT-PAC, 1111 North Fairfax Street,
Alexandria, VA 22314. If you have any questions or would like to
contribute via phone please call Michael Matlack, Associate Director of
Grassroots & Political Affairs at APTA, at 1-800-999-2782, ext. 3163. Thank you for your support.
